Testosterone Replacement Therapy Helps Fight Off Belly Fat and Can Save Your Heart

A recent long-term study showed that in obese men with low testosterone, testosterone replacement led to significant weight loss and waistline reduction over 5 years. Study participants receiving testosterone lost and average of 36 pounds over several years. Furthermore, their cholesterol and heart attack rates decreased.

Contrary to popular belief, testosterone does not cause prostate cancer and does not increase cholesterol and this study further supports this. The weight loss results were unexpected and the study was not geared to specifically look at this outcome but changes in body composition have been well documented in those undergoing testosterone replacement. An important fact to remember is that testosterone will exert such effects in men who already have low T and are obese or overweight.

Obesity causes many hormonal changes in men and leads to lower testosterone levels. Fat will convert testosterone to estradiol (the female hormone) which will tell your brain to stop making more testosterone. Also, obesity increases insulin resistance and diabetes risk which then decreases the levels of testosterone carrier proteins, further lowering testosterone levels. While this study was done in older males, this very same chemical change will occur in younger males as well.

 Obesity clearly sabotages your manhood.

Once your T is low and you are obese, it becomes more difficult to exercise and stay active since men with low T have low energy, poor exercise tolerance, and difficulty gaining muscle and are thus less likely to maintain a lifestyle that will support weight loss.

To crudely check if you are at risk of obesity-related Low T, a good rule of thumb is that if you stand naked and look down and can’t see your genitals because your belly is in the way – chances are you have low T because of obesity. And if you can’t see your toes, well, then you need to see a doctor ASAP.
